[The invasion came without warning, accompanied by fire in the sky and strange metallic crafts blotting out the sun and stars. The smell of smoke and burning paper and wood fills the air.

Ayumu is a simple shinobi, born and raised to spy on and assassinate human targets, many of them hard to reach targets. But more than that, she is a courageous woman so when her superiors demanded reconnaissance on the enemy, she accepted the assigned mission without hesitation or protest.

And that's how she's come to stand outside one of the odd crafts decked out in full ninja gear. She's armed to the feeth with a wakizashi, shuriken, neko-te, and poison as well as a kunai and rope.

Ayumu squares her shoulders, attaches her rope to her kunai as a makeshift grappling hook, and throws it at the craft, hoping to catch it on a groove in the structure or something. Surely, there is a point of infiltration somewhere on this bizarre metal ship.]

[Lavi isn't quite familiar with aliens, but he has some pretty strange stuff.

Aliens is a far cry from akuma. Still, his main concern is the simple shinobi who seems to be determined with trying to grab onto this bizarre looking ship.]

Uh...Ayu...

What?

[Ayumu's trying not to sound snappish but as is typical of her superiors, she's been sent out with very little useful information and a demand to acquire more, so she's just a little irritated with her bosses.]

We need to get inside, don't we?

[Her kunai finally catches on something and she gives the rope a firm yank to make sure it's secure before getting ready to shimmy up the rope.]

[He can feel a bead of sweat rolling down his cheek.

Damn. Her superiors really pissed her off this time, didn't they?

Lavi slowly nods.]

Yeah. After you then.

[ In some way, they had gotten close oddly fast to where people were convinced there was some sort of family relation thing happening between the two. Others were convinced that it was for more intimate and personal reasons, but neither were ever really confirmed to most of the people. Lavi was who he'd always been, assigned once again with that name, 'Lavi,' and Chise was a weird generator and magnet for magic and all things supernatural.

Even if it led to disaster, or even her own life, Chise wouldn't actually leave or find a safer life. Especially when it seemed to just gravitate towards her, and the younger teen didn't hold that much conservation or value in a longer life. Not when she was ready to throw it away almost two years ago.

Which is why someone sent Lavi a warning of the future- That her body would fail before she makes it to the next year.

Currently she was lounged back on the couch, reading one of the newest books that had been gotten- or really, the newest one in a group of books she was allowed to start reading, with a small biscuit in her mouth. ]

And what are you reading today, kotori?

[Lavi had been ordered to keep a watch over this young woman, this curious creature whose life span has been shortened so greatly her years to live didn't look particularly great. Still, it didn't stop Lavi from getting close to her.

This strange girl that reminds him briefly of someone from his own past.

He's a little gifted for magic himself, not a natural as Chise is or a magician like Elias is (though he's sure that Elias has been sending him nasty glares when the other thinks he isn't looking). Lavi leans over the back of the couch, peering down at the book Chise's reading.]

[ She glances over her shoulder and upwards to see the other redhead. Biting on the biscuit, the rest gets pulled off of her lips as she moves the book with her blackened hand to show the contents. ]

More on my studies. Elias doesn't want me practicing again just yet, but he suggested these would be fine to read up on in the meantime.

[His eye dips down, a brief glance at the black hand before it goes over the contents on the pages.]

Guess I could understand that. How's it so far?

Informative. It's about the same as the last few.

[ Meaning, instead of being directly about magic, it was more about the varying laws, or the creatures. Things to provide further context of what she always found herself around. ]

[A soft hum as he tilts his head to the side.]

Well, with the reading you've got, that sure ought to keep you busy. Doubt Elias wants you running off into trouble again.

[ That almost sounds like you think she looks for trouble, Lavi. She can stay in one place and still have it come to her. Which is probably one of the other reasons Elias was tolerant of Lavi being around to watch her. It always helped to have an extra set of eyes. ]

We already have plenty of rules set up for when I go out of the house. He's not exactly trying to keep me busy with reading- This is about how much time I usually put into my studies.

[Trouble magnet.

And here he thought Allen was bad.

Lavi just raises an eyebrow, not looking very impressed. Still, he won't argue. Much.]

Right. How many more books of these has he given you to read?

[ This is what happens when you're a Sleigh Beggy. It just happens. Which is why the salamander is crawling out of the fire to go back onto the couch and get close again. These things literally follow her home. ]

Just a few... He's not expecting me to finish it all in one day. I could probably spend as little or as much time as I want on them.

[ She likes to read, Lavi. Don't call her out on this. ]

[He chuckles.]

I'll be heading into town later. Wanna come with or should I just bring something back for you?

I don't see why I couldn't come. What're you heading into town for?

Picking up a few books for my own reading.

[A shrug.]

And it'd be nice to go into town for a bit.

[ Since when does she turn down books and getting more reading materials, Lavi? It has her pulling the blanket off her lap after setting a placemarker in the book. ]

Some fresh air and a look around town sounds like a good idea when you put it like that.

[He grins at her.]

Great. Should we leave a note for Elias, too, then?

And let Silky know, yes.

[ There are steps to this, after all. Even if she left a note, Elias might still get upset. Or worse.

He could get jealous.

Getting up with the salamander, Chise sets it to go back into the fireplace before heading to the door. Her boots and coat are by the door anyway, so Silky would be the first one they pass. ]

What kind of books were you planning to get?

There are some books on this country's history that I was interested in reading.

[Following her, he grabs his scarf from the back of the couch and loops it around his neck.]

[There was always a problem for Hak, wasn't there? Being a vampire hunter, he had them all the time. Sometimes self caused, sometimes through the universe deciding to fuck with him, and most of the time, both.

This time it was both. A vampire, who went by the name Jae-Ha, was a high profile vampire who was clearly trouble by the way Hak met him. Flirty and touchy and getting all up into Hak's business. And no matter how many times he had said he wasn't interested, it seemed Jae-Ha was more interested and more intrigued.

Which is how Hak got caught letting a vampire eat from him.

And because Jae-Ha was slated to be killed, it meant that Hak would have to be as well in order to make sure the man created no new vampires.

So, fuck.

A train was their only way out of town due to the fact they could hide and move quickly from it. Grumbling as he sat in a private car with the last of his funds, looking directly at the man who caused him the struggle.]

Don't say anything until we're across the border.

[Honestly, Jae-ha is a little more surprised Hak hasn't just killed him. Not that it would be an easy feat, but the vampire can be a rather persistent one.

His brothers all agree with that.

Jae-ha raises a brow elegantly, lips curved up into a smile.]

How mean. Do you think me speaking would cause us trouble?

[His voice nearly comes out as a purr.]

Yes.

[Hak grumbles and presses himself close to him.]

That's not anything new.

[But they have to behave. Constantly. Or they're going to get in trouble.]

[He snickers, wrapping an arm around him.]

Your lack of faith in me hurts.

Maybe you should work on that.

[He grumbles and presses against him.]

How do you propose I do that?

[Leaning down, he begins to kiss his neck.]

By not starting with that.

[Oh god he likes that. This shitty vampire is going to ruin everything.]

Pervert.

But why not?

[He almost purrs.]

Because you'll get us both in a shit ton of trouble because you couldn't keep it in your pants.

[Loud angry grumbling.]
